Interview

What course?

I am studying the commercial cookery package. It is the Cert III and IV in commercial cookery and Diploma of Hospitality in Brisbane at Imagine Education.

Where are you living in Brisbane?

I am living near Southbank in boarding/shared accommodation. It is about $150 per week. It is single room and close to the city including internet and everything. In my experience it is quite easy for accommodation in Brisbane.

How do you like the course?

Even though I already come from a culinary background, I am learning so much from the course. There are such small things make a difference when it comes to cooking.

The facilities are also really a high standard and I have found the education to be very good and the teachers are great! I would definitely recommend the college.

How often do you attend class?

I go 2 days per week – Tues AND Thurs. One day is theory and the other day is practical where we work in the kitchen. This is a great way to do it because it give me lots of time to rest, work part time and do the assignments.

How did you find about Pathway to Aus?

I touched base with many agents in Dubai, but none were really willing to help me. They said with my previous education it would be hard to get the visa.

Pathway to Aus was the only one to help. In my experience they were genuine and authentic to deal with. We are really grateful to their help.

How are you doing for work?

I am doing your vocational placement at Novotel. It is a big hotel, a lot of exposure. It is near my house in Southbank so it is really convenient. The college helps you out as well for vocational placement if needed. I also work part time at a café on the weekends.

Did you have any problem finding work?

I had no problem at all. No problem finding work. A lot of opportunities in the city. I applied for a lot of jobs and I still get plenty of calls. The hospitality field does really well in Aus. Not too much of a challenge.

What are you most looking forward to learning?

I love learning about the local cuisine. I want to know what the local Aussie culture likes so I can cater to this.
