Intro to Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast

Studying the right trade course on the Sunshine Coast can put you on a pathway for an in-demand occupation that has strong permanent visa prospects.

Situated in one of the fastest growing areas of Australia and only a one-hour drive north from Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast is an exciting and progressive region for students to live, learn and start their futures.

The Sunshine Coast is home to a welcoming community, and an endless coastline and hinterland. It is a place where students feel safe and happy from the moment they arrive.

The Sunshine Coast offers great beaches, hiking, water sports, mountains and rainforests. The sunny climate is ideal for year-round activities. Swim, sail, surf, jet ski, snorkel, paddle board or water ski in crystal-clear water.

The Sunshine Coast is classified as a regional area by immigration. This means students can claim an additional 5 points on the Australian Immigration Points Test for studying in a regional area and may be able to apply for a Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491).

Why study a trade?

Studying the right trade or vocational course can greatly increase your chances of receiving Work Visas to Australia.

But migration can be very difficult to understand. There are so many different types of visas and so much information out there, which can make it super challenging to know what is accurate for your circumstance.

Therefore we’ve created a booklet for you that explains a pathway that has been tried and tested. Pathway to Aus has had many of its students successfully go down this path to achieve Permanent Residency.

This pathway is not for everyone, however it may be for you!

Step 1: Study a course or package of courses

Study a course or package of courses that go for at least 2 years and includes the Certificate III in a relevant trade coruse

Step 2: Receive the Temporary Graduate Visa

By studying for 2 years and undertaking a 360 hours vocational placement during your studies (most education providers will arrange this for you), you may be eligible to apply for and receive the Temporary Graduate Visa. The graduate visa is a work visa that allows the visa holder to live and work in Australia for up to 18 months. For more information on the Graduate Visa, click here.

Step 3: Participate in the Job Ready Program

The main benefit of the JRP is that on completion you will be provided with a positive skills assessment for general migration purposes. On this program, you must work for at least 12 months as a qualified Boat Builder.

Your employer will not need to sponsor your visa, as you will already be on the graduate visa. This will mean that you have a much higher chance of finding employment as it is very easy for the employer to hire you. You may find this video on the Job Ready Program helpful.

Step 4: Apply for a General Skilled Migration Visas

Once you have completed the Job Ready Program as a Boat Builder you will receive a positive skills assessment. Once you have the positive skills assessment you may be able to apply for general skilled migration visas. If eligible, the general skilled migration visas (Skilled Independent Subclass 189, State Nominated Subclass 190 or Regional Nominated Subclass 491) do not require you to have an employer that is willing to sponsor your visa. Please note that you will still be required to pass the points test and health checks to apply for this visa.
