Furniture Design and Technology
The Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Technology provides students with the qualifications, theoretical skills, practical knowledge and experience to perform design of furniture and the application of the design into a finished furniture product.
During this course you will develop the knowledge and extensive experience required to design both interior and exterior furniture keeping factors like sustainability, ergonomics, customer style preferences and practicality in mind.
Upon graduation you will have gained the knowledge and practical experience to design and produce fine furniture for display, custom and volume production and purchase furniture based on quality assurance and specialist techniques.
- Passed Year 11 or the overseas equivalent
- Students must be at least 18 at the commencement of the course.
- Present English language evidence

- IELTS, PTE, etc. (IELTS: 6.0 overall – no band less than 5.5; OR equivalent). The test result must be valid within 2 years at the time of the visa application.
- Some Education Institutions offer an in-house English Placement Test that you can take to meet the English entry requirements.
- Exemptions apply if:
– you are a citizen and hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ or Republic of Ireland
– you are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course registered to be delivered in a language other than English, or a registered post-graduate research course
– you have completed at least 5 years of study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.

A Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Technology will open many doors within the furniture design and production industry. You will graduate with the diverse skills to perform maintenance and monitoring of machines, research furniture styles, produce custom furniture, produce computer aided drawings, design briefs, construct joints for custom furniture, effectively operate woodworking machines and create templates and jigs for custom made furniture.
