Can a foreigner get an apprenticeship in Australia?
The answer is NO. Foreigners cannot undertake an apprenticeship. According to Jobs and Skills Australia, international students are ineligible for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway. Furthermore, there is currently no existing visa that would be suitable for international apprentices. The Australian Government requires apprentices to be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
There are also other pathways for foreigners to study a trade. They can take vocational courses or have their industry skills assessed through recognition of prior learning (RPL) and undertake gap training to gain a trade qualification.
