Dental Technology
Dental Technician’s Build & Design Prosthetic implants and False Teeth alongside Dentists for their patients.
Some of the task you will undertake are:
- Make models of the mouth and teeth from impressions of the patient’s mouth supplied by the dentist.
- Build up wax replicas of the Mouth & Teeth for creating accurate moulds & prosthetics.
- Replacing the wax mould with more permanent materials to be used on the patient. For example plastics, ceramics & Metals.
- Clean, Polish & Finish the product ready for placement in the patient.
- Make appliances for patients with cleft palates, braces and plates for correcting irregular teeth and mouth guards & other Orthodontic apparatus.
1. Students need to be at least 18 years old.
2. Academic requirement: Completion of Australian Year 12 OR overseas equivalent.
3. Present English language proficiency evidence

- IELTS, PTE, etc. (IELTS: 6.0 overall – no band less than 5.5; OR equivalent). The test result must be valid within 2 years at the time of the visa application.
- Some Education Institutions offer an in-house English Placement Test that you can take to meet the English entry requirements.
- Exemptions apply if:
– you are a citizen and hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ or Republic of Ireland
– you are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course registered to be delivered in a language other than English, or a registered post-graduate research course
– you have completed at least 5 years of study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.

The Diploma of Dental Technology course provides a pathway to Bachelor of Oral Health & Dental Technology, you may be given Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) for your Diploma of Dental Technology and reduce the time of the course significantly.
- Employment for this occupation rose very strongly (in percentage terms) in the past five years and rose strongly in the long-term (ten years). Looking forward, employment for Dental Hygienists, Technicians and Therapists to November 2019 is expected to grow moderately.
