Course Overview
This qualification provides students with the required skills and competencies in database development. This course teaches students how to analyse project requirements to produce component specialisations, build using rapid application development (RAD) tools, and use structured query language (SQL) to define, create, and manipulate database structures. Students will learn how to design a database, contribute to copyright, ethics and privacy in an ICT environment, model preferred system solutions, data objects and processes, in addition to learning other specialised skills. Ultimately, the Diploma of Database Design and Development allows students to develop skills required to plan and create database systems for a wide range of businesses.

Graduate Outcome
Generally, the intended purpose of the Diploma of Database Design and Development is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to support them in gaining employment in the field of designing and developing database systems.
Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to participate in planning and producing information and communications technology database systems for a wide range of businesses. They will have obtained the competencies required to model data objects and processes as well as integrating sustainability in ICT planning and design projects.
Entry Requirements:
The following selection criteria requirements apply to all International Students:
- English Language Proficiency: Academic IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 3+ on all skills (or equivalent).
- Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion.
Prior Information Technology experience or technical background is required for direct entry into the Diploma of Database Design and Development and will be assessed at application stage

Options for a Temporary Graduate Visa
If undertaking study in Australia for a minimum of 2 years you may qualify for the Temporary Skilled Graduate Visa. This visa allows the holder 1.5 years unlimited work rights in Australia. Many graduates use this time to build up experience in their field or find an employer that is willing to sponsor their visa.
If you have applied for the Temporary Graduate Visa you may also be eligible to apply for the Job Ready Program. The Job Ready Program is run through TRA and allows graduates in certain disciplines to have their skills assessed for skilled migration purposes. It is a way for people to have their skills assessed without having the experience. Once the student receives a positive skills assessment they may be eligible to apply for permanent work visas such as State Sponsored and General Skilled Migration Visas.
