What is superannuation?

Published: Feb 19, 2021

Superannuation is a compulsory retirement savings contribution that employers pay on top of your wages.

The Superannuation Guarantee rate is currently 12% of your ordinary earnings, and the old $450-a-month minimum earnings threshold no longer applies, so eligible employees are generally entitled to super regardless of how little they earn in a month. Most temporary visa holders, including student visa holders, are eligible to receive it.
