The Genuine Student (GS) requirement applies to Student visa (Subclass 500) applications lodged on or after 23 March 2024. It replaced the previous Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement.
You must satisfy the department that you genuinely intend to study in Australia and that you will comply with your visa conditions (such as course attendance and work limits). The Department of Home Affairs assesses this by looking at your circumstances, your study history, your reasons for choosing your course and provider, your ties to your home country, and other relevant factors.
There is no single document that “proves” you meet GS; it is an overall assessment based on the information and evidence you provide in your application. Requirements and guidance can change. Always check the current criteria on the Department of Home Affairs website or with a registered migration agent.
