What is a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)?

Published: Feb 23, 2026

A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is an official document issued by an Australian education provider that is registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). It confirms that you have been accepted into a specific course and have a genuine place in that program.

You usually receive a CoE after you accept an offer from the provider and meet their enrolment conditions (such as paying the required deposit or first instalment). The document typically includes your details, the provider and course CRICOS codes, course start and end dates, and information on course duration and fees.

For a Student visa (Subclass 500), the Department of Home Affairs generally requires a valid CoE from a CRICOS-registered provider before a visa can be granted. You use the CoE as evidence of your enrolment when you lodge your student visa application.

Requirements can change. Always check the current rules on the Department of Home Affairs website or with a registered migration agent.
