A standard diploma in Australia is an undergraduate-level VET qualification at AQF Level 5. It is not postgraduate. Postgraduate options at a similar naming level are the graduate diploma or postgraduate diploma, which are AQF Level 8 and require a prior bachelor degree or equivalent experience.
In Australia:
🔹 A Graduate Diploma is postgraduate (after bachelor’s)
🔹 A regular Diploma is undergraduate or vocational (often after high school)
Understanding AQF levels helps you plan your study and career steps. Diploma and advanced diploma programs focus on applied skills. Graduate diplomas deliver advanced knowledge for degree holders, often leading into a master’s with credit.
International students can choose VET or higher education under the Student visa subclass 500. Check CRICOS codes and entry criteria before applying. Compare VET diplomas and postgraduate diplomas in Australia.
