Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Cyber Security)

Course Requirements

• Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent)
  (Advanced Diploma may require a relevant IT qualification or experience)

• IELTS 6.0 overall (or equivalent), with no band below provider requirements

• • • Another accepted test such as PTE, TOEFL, OET, etc.

    • Some Education Institutions offer an in-house English Placement Test that you can take to meet the English entry requirements.
    • Exemptions apply if:
      – you are a citizen and hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ or Republic of Ireland
      – you are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course registered to be delivered in a language other than English, or a registered post-graduate research course
      – you have completed at least 5 years of study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.

• Minimum age of 18 years old at course commencement

• Unique Student Identifier (USI)

• Access to a laptop or suitable device

• Some providers may require a pre-enrolment interview or skills assessment

• Course must be CRICOS-registered for eligibility under the Student Visa (Subclass 500)

Course Outcomes

After completing the Diploma of Information Technology (Cyber Security), international students gain practical skills to support entry-level cyber security and IT roles. Graduates understand how to identify basic cyber risks and help protect systems and networks in a workplace environment.

Students may be able to:

• Assist with monitoring and securing IT systems
• Identify common cyber threats and risks

• Progress into the Advanced Diploma or further IT study, subject to entry requirements

After completing the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Cyber Security), students develop more advanced technical skills for intermediate cyber security and IT roles. Graduates gain deeper knowledge of securing complex systems and responding to cyber incidents.

Students may be able to:

• Support the planning and management of secure IT systems
• Respond to cyber security incidents using industry practices
• Apply risk management and security strategies
• Take on greater responsibility within IT or cyber security teams
• Progress into further study pathways, subject to provider requirements

Some courses may support eligibility for post-study work options, such as the Temporary Graduate (Subclass 485) visa, subject to current visa rules and individual circumstances. Course completion does not guarantee employment or visa outcomes.
