Education-to-PR Transition
How did Al Jihad embark on his journey?
His study pathway started in Bangladesh and he came to Australia, initially, to study for a degree in Bachelor of Information Technology (IT). However, when he was studying his course, he soon realised, it would be very difficult to find employment in his field of IT.
However, while he was studying in order to earn some money, he started working in the building and construction sector as a Solid Plasterer in New South Wales. After he graduated, he got a Graduate Visa (485) approval and continued to work as a solid plasterer. Eventually he had enough work experience in order to obtain a Certificate III in Solid Plastering through Recognised Prior Learning and we then helped him to obtain a full skill assessment through Trades Recognition Australia.
Application ≠ Approval
This is a gentle reminder to note that a visa application doesn’t mean approval. Nothing is guaranteed, but if you follow the process and submit all the requirements, getting a visa grant is possible.
His 4-Step Study-to-Work Journey
1. Bachelor of Information Technology (IT)
2. Found work as a Solid Plasterer and gained RPL qualification
3. Graduate Visa (485)
4. Obtained a full skill assessment through Trades Recognition Australia
Work Experience + Skills Assessment
Once he started working he learned the specialised skills of the job. He was able to use his experience gained at work in order to obtain a trade qualification through Recognised Prior Learning – Certificate III in Solid Plastering. After that and once he had gained the required years of work experience, he obtained a positive skills assessment through Trades Recognition Australia (TRA).
From Unqualified to Positive Skill Assessment: 3 Steps
1. Build work experience (3 years for MSA) or if you go through the Job Ready you only need 1 year post qualification
2. Qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
3. Passed final Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) assessment
After Al Jihad completed all the hours and assessments required, TRA issued him with a positive final skills assessment, which he used for his state nomination for his permanent Skilled Nominated Visa (190) application. The 190 visa is a permanent residency application, so obtaining this made him a permanent resident.
