From 11 March 2026, there are new rules that mean applicants can no longer submit all parts of the 407 visa application at the same time.

What Has Changed?
Previously, the process was straightforward. The employers and applicants could lodge the sponsorship, nomination and visa application together on the same day.
This meant the visa application would immediately go into the system and the applicant would typically receive a Bridging Visa allowing them to remain in Australia while the application was being processed.
❌But that is no longer possible now under the new rules.
The update now is, a Subclass 407 visa application is only valid if two things are already in place:
- The employer must already be an approved Temporary Activities Sponsor
- The Training Nomination must already be approved
Only once the nomination has been approved can the visa application itself be lodged.
Why This Is Important
This change may seem small on paper but it can create real timing risks for applicants currently in Australia.
No Bridging Visa During Early Stages
Because you cannot lodge the visa application until the nomination has been approved, applicants will not receive a Bridging Visa during the sponsorship and nomination stage.
Previously, lodging everything together meant applicants could remain in Australia while waiting for the outcome.
Now, there may be a gap between visas if planning is not done carefully.
Risk If Your Current Visa Is Expiring
Another major concern is visa expiry timing.
If your current visa expires before the nomination is approved, you may not be able to submit the 407 visa application in time.
