It Started With a Simple Online Connection
Not every migration story begins with a plan.
Sometimes, it begins with something as simple as a message.
For Kulander and Romel, their story started online in 2022. Like many couples navigating long-distance relationships, they didn’t know exactly where things would lead but they knew they wanted to explore it.
In 2023, they met in person in Singapore.
And that’s when everything changed. They said, “we travelled together to Singapore where our relationship truly began.”
The Big Question: “How Do We Make This Work in Australia?”
After Kulander returned to Sydney, reality set in for both of them.
They weren’t just in a relationship anymore. They were thinking about a future together. And with that came one big question:
“How do we stay together in Australia?”
Like most couples, they didn’t have all the answers. Partner visas can feel overwhelming, confusing, and honestly stressful.
So they reached out for help.
Kulander wrote, “When I returned to Sydney, I reached out… for guidance on how we could build a future together in Australia.”
Finding a Clear Way Forward
From that point on, things became much clearer.
Instead of trying to figure everything out on their own, they had a plan. Something realistic that matched their situation.
“From the very beginning… they (Nick and team) were instrumental in helping us map out a clear and achievable plan.”
And that’s where their journey really started to take shape.
From Confusion to a Clear Plan | How They Made It Work
This is where things shifted. Instead of guessing their way through the process, they were guided step by step on what to do first, what mattered most, and what pathway made sense for them. One thing that stands out about Kulander and Romel’s journey is that they didn’t rush it. They took things step by step, based on where they were at the time.
Starting offshore
At the beginning, they were still overseas. They didn’t yet meet the de facto requirements.
That can feel like a setback. But it’s actually very common. Instead of pushing ahead too early, they focused on what needed to happen first.
Coming to Australia on a visitor visa
The next step was getting Romel into Australia on a visitor visa. This gave them the chance to spend proper time together, not just the short trips, but everyday life. It also meant they could start building real evidence of their relationship while living in the same place.
Building their relationship onshore
While in Australia, their relationship continued to grow naturally.
They spent time together, travelled and then built shared experiences. Every little things that matter not just for a visa but for a genuine relationship. At the same time, they were building the kind of evidence needed for a partner visa without overcomplicating it.
Lodging the partner visa
Once everything was in place and the timing felt right, they then proceeded to lodge the partner visa.
“They (Pathway to Aus) provided practical advice, reassurance, and step-by-step support…Their knowledge and genuine care made what could have been a very stressful process feel manageable and hopeful.” he wrote in his testimonial.
After lodging, Romel was granted a bridging visa, allowing him to stay in Australia while the application was being processed.
Moving forward together
From there, things progressed as planned.
Kulander added, “He (Romel) has now been living in Australia for the past 2.5 years… and today we are happily living together as a married couple.”
What started as a long-distance relationship is now a shared life in Australia.
More Than Just a Visa Outcome
What makes this story special isn’t just the visa approval. It’s everything that came with it. Living together. Meeting each other’s families. Building something stable and real.
“This journey has truly been life-changing for us… their support helped turn what once felt like a distant dream into our reality.”
If You’re in a Similar Situation
If you’re in a long-distance relationship or unsure about your visa options, you’re not alone.
A lot of couples start exactly where Kulander and Romel did. There was uncertainty, a bit overwhelmed and not sure what the next step should be.
What made the difference for them was having a clear plan and taking things one step at a time.
