What If You Do Not Have an ImmiAccount?
If you do not currently have an ImmiAccount, you can still use the New Passport Details online form to inform immigration of your new passport and travel document details so they can update your immigration record and link your new passport to your visa.
However, it is important to note that you cannot use this form if you:
- Are an Australian citizen
- Have an ImmiAccount
- Are an Australian Business Travel Card (ABTC) holder
- Have a valid Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) 601 (you must apply for a new ETA using your new passport)
This is why it is recommended to create an ImmiAccount and update your passport details directly through your account if possible.
Why Updating Your Passport Details Is Important
What happens when you don’t update your passport details? If your visa is still linked to your old passport, you may experience delays or even refusal from airlines for boarding your flight or entering Australia even if your visa is valid.
Updating your passport details in your ImmiAccount early can help you avoid unnecessary stress and problems with immigration when travelling. It only takes a few minutes to update your details, but it can save you a lot of problems later.
