APPLYING FOR OVERSEAS POLICE CLEARANCES
For certain Australian visas, such as: partner visas, employer-sponsored visas, or skilled visas, applicants may need to provide a copy of a police clearance for any country they have spent more than 12 months in the past 10 years.
Each country has a different process. Some countries are really simple like Australia, NZ, UK, Brazil. You can simply apply online and these are posted out.
However, some countries are really difficult. For example for a Canadian or USA police check, you must get your fingerprints stamped at an Australian police station and post this to the USA.
You should always check with immigration regarding which specific police checks are required and how to obtain these. You can then these out through the immi website:
The website will state the specific document or documents you need to obtain, as well as the link and contact details.
Be sure to follow these specifically, and if you get stuck, you can contact your closest embassy or consulate.
Please note that the above information is general in nature and you should contact a migration agent to find out more about your specific circumstances.
