Extension Options for Student Visa

No. You can apply for a Student Visa extension while you’re still in Australia on your current Student Visa. This is called an “onshore application” and allows you to stay in Australia while your application is being processed.

If you apply onshore before your current visa expires, you’ll automatically receive a bridging visa (BVA) that allows you to stay legally in Australia while your new Student Visa application is being processed. You can continue studying and working under your current visa conditions until the new visa is granted.

The Student Visa application fee is $1,600 AUD for the main applicant (as of July 2024). If you apply from inside Australia, you may also need to pay a subsequent visa application charge of $700 AUD. Course fees vary from $5,000 to $25,000 per year depending on the program. Many students work part-time to cover expenses, and we can help you find courses with payment plans.
