What visas can lead to PR (Permanent Residency) in Melbourne?
We are often asked by many students what visas can lead to PR in Melbourne. Although this city is typically harder to get PR, this video will outline some of the most common options for those who are willing to be educated or who have prior training.
The first type of visa that can lead to PR are the General Skilled Migration Visas.
You will not need a company to sponsor your visa, instead, you will submit an expression of interest and you are then invited to apply for your visa. You could be invited for:
- 190 – The 190 is where you are invited by Victoria State Migration.
- 189 – The 189 visa is where you are invited by federal immigration.
- Unfortunately, the 491 visa is not an option as Melbourne is not a regional area.
In the past few years, Victoria’s migration has been very limited with the occupations that they are inviting. Often inviting mainly health or teaching-related occupations. However, with the new financial year, starting July 1st, most states update their occupation lists and we are hopeful to receive a lot more invitations for other occupations.
The next Visa pathway that can lead to PR are the Employer Sponsorship Visas.
If you are working in an occupation on the MLTSSL, you may be able to apply directly for the permanent employer-sponsored visa 186. This visa requires you to have 3 years of work experience and is only invited for limited occupation on the MLTSSL.
Alternatively, Aus immigration announced changes to the 482 visa. Which should allow a 3 pathway to PR from the 482 to 186 visa.
