Steven is a migration client of Pathway to Aus who went from a Working Holiday visa (subclass 417) to Short-term business visa, back to the UK, then to a  457 employer-sponsored visa and finally to PERMANENT RESIDENCY (Subclass 186). It has been a really long and drawn out process for Steven (almost 10 years), but he got there in the end.

  • What were you doing when you came out to Aus initially and what was your pathway?

When I first ever came out in 2003, I was on a working holiday visa. I loved it out here and couldn’t think about leaving to go back home. I was fortunate enough to go on a short-term business visa in 2004, however they had a few problems with it. Eventually, I went back to the UK in 2005 and lived and worked there for many years. However, I never gave up on my dream of coming back to Aus. And then finally I got sponsored on a 457 in 2014 to manage a sports centre. This 457 visa eventually turned into PR. So it has been a bit of a pathway for me.

  • What do you do in your job?

I manage a water sports centre. So I deal with clients, manage staff, a lot of admin and just generally keep the place running.

  • How did you find your job?

It was actually a place I worked on at on the working holiday visa in 2003. The relationship stayed there, and eventually, in 2014 I got a call up to see if I would like to come back on an employer-sponsored 457 visa. I guess I just had the qualifications and experience they needed.

  • Do you have any advice for someone thinking about moving to Australia?

Do it! I mean, my advice would be at least come to check it out. Coming here on a working holiday visa was one of the best things I have ever done. There are so many people I know who are just in their comfort zone back home. Coming from the UK it is quite an easy transition to life in Australia, but the climate and everything is way better. Make the most of your life.

  • How do you feel about the working conditions in Aus?

The conditions are pretty awesome. There is a great attitude at work. The laid back lifestyle kind of comes into the workplace mentality. That isn’t to say that you can slack off or anything like that. Everyone works just as hard as back home. When people work here, they work hard. However, when the work is done, everyone seems to make the most of life outside of work.

  • How did Pathway to Aus help you?

You guys are legends! You basically made everything super, super easy for myself and my employer. You took away a lot of the stress and doubts that come with the process. And it is a very stressful time. I knew that with all of the changes coming in with migration that I needed help, and you guys went above and beyond. I think also obviously the margin for error was reduced with Pathway to Aus, because you know the law and you know what immigration is after. I would refer anytime.

  • Tell me about how found Pathway to Aus?

I was referred by a friend to the company.
