What is the difference between carpentry and joinery?

Published: Sep 4, 2020

The two are very similar, but there is a difference between the two. Carpenters are generally responsible for building the structure of a building, whilst a joiner would be responsible for much of the interior and finishing work.

  • joiner is a woodworking expert specialising in interlocking small building components and applying fine techniques to create intricate designs and precise fittings for furniture and frames.
  • carpenter is a wood craftsman with vast knowledge and experience in larger, more complex projects. These include installing, repairing, and replacing roofing, floors, and stairs.
