How much can a student earn in Australia per month?

Published: Sep 3, 2025
From July 2025, the national minimum wage is AUD $24.95 per hour. If an international student works the equivalent of 24 hours per week across a fortnightly cycle, that works out to about $598.80 per week before tax
and around $2,395.20 per month before tax. Casual roles may pay more due to casual loading and penalties.
Popular job types can include: Retail, Hospitality, Tutoring, Freelancing, Administrative Work, Delivery Jobs, and Childcare.
Actual earnings depend on your job, award rates, location, and experience. Evening, weekend, and public holiday rates can increase pay significantly under Australian awards.
Keep accurate timesheets and check the Fair Work Ombudsman information for your industry. Your studies must remain your primary focus to meet student visa conditions.
