From 2 October 2026, student visa applicants cannot include a partner or dependent children unless an exemption applies, such as PhD study, DFAT or Defence sponsorship, a foreign government scholarship, or being an eligible student from a Pacific or ASEAN country. Current student visa holders also cannot add family after the visa is granted. Applicants whose family are already on a current student visa may include them in a further application lodged in Australia.
